From Bad Newz to worse

A message to the Philadelphia Eagles and Roger Goodell: If Michael Vick had committed these stomach-turning acts on dozens of human beings in his Bad Newz Kennels torture compound, would we even be having this debate? Animals have less power than human beings. And they are just as deserving of compassion and humanity.

It's not about the right to earn a living. It's about the privilege of earning millions to be a role model. Is this the person we want our children looking up to?

Someone who can torture helpless animals exhibits darkness of the heart that shouldn't be allowed to shine on a football field, or anywhere else for that matter.

Michael Vick's actions reveal dramatic disrespect for innocent lives.

This monster does not deserve a second chance. What he did over a long period of time was not a simple lapse in judgement - he is evil to the core of his soul. And if his "team" thinks they coached him well enough to answer the questions on 60 Minutes, they are wrong. He was able to spout off the responses he had learned but when it came to giving an answer from his heart (if he even has one), he failed miserably.
So he cried for all those nights after he heard the prison door clang closed. For HIMSELF, not for the poor creatures he had tortured. If he had not accepted a nickel from any football team for a few years, and worked exclusively with animal rescuers, it may have been different, but Michael Vick is for Michael Vick. I've heard him speak and he does not sound inspirational. He's inarticulate and evil and not a role model for anyone. It's true that someone needs to get to the dog fighting thugs and stop them dead in their tracks, but it needs to be someone with love in their hearts and kindness in their souls, not Michael Vick.

Carreen first of all I must comment on your new blog. It is really really good and as, always, I love catching up on all your animal stories. Some, of course, are not great to read as in the article you posted about Michael Vick. My stomach turned when I saw the picture of the "abused" dog. What can I say. The response written by one of your readers was right on the mark. The man is not a man he is simply a monster.

I believe that the punishment he got did not justify what he did, I believe that this dirt bag, should have been trialed the same way that someone would if this were babies, these animals are defenceless, and it takes one big coward in order to do this to animals. This waste of skin, should not even be aloud to walk the street. If he can hurt animals and have no remorse, who knows what he can do. I cannot believe that he only got 21 months in prison. Doesn't say very much for the justice system either...

He is a piece of rubbish and hopefully he wont be on this planet for much longer. I hope his family are ashamed as well..they deserve to be shamed...
